Belperron introduces 1930s-1940s inspired Spring Collections
at TEFAF Maastricht March 10-19, 2017
Belperron’s First Anniversary Collection
Introducing early archival designs and vintage rarities
Belperron is pleased to announce that they will return to TEFAF Maastricht, the world’s leading art fair, for a second year taking place in the Netherlands from March 10-19, 2017. Belperron will debut both new and vintage jewelry highlighting archival designs from the late 1930s and early 1940s. “We couldn’t be more excited to return to TEFAF Maastricht for our second year, presenting our finest works to the world’s most discerning audience of collectors,” commented Nico Landrigan, Belperron President.
Belperron will debut its first anniversary collection, designs from her early career when she first came to work with Bernard Herz in 1930s Paris. These designs defined her singular style and modern sensibility. Belperron pioneered a new aesthetic in jewelry – organic, tactile and arrestingly modern—for such clients as Elsa Schiaparelli, Mona von Bismarck, Diana Vreeland and the Duchess of Windsor. Asked why she never signed her work, Mme. Belperron replied, “My style is my signature.”
The Belperron Leaves Necklace Originally designed in the mid-1930s, the Leaves Necklace reflects Suzanne Belperron’s mastery of humble splendor, a reimagining of the natural world. 18K gray gold entwines seven carved blue chalcedony leaves, 274.50 carats, twelve sapphires, 29.74 carats, and 73 old-mine cut diamonds, 9.37 carats.
In the pantheon of master jewelers from the twentieth century, Suzanne Belperron (1900-1983) stands apart as the only woman. After beginning her career with Boivin in 1919, she pioneered a new aesthetic in jewelry: sensual, tactile and arrestingly modern. With influential clients such as Elsa Schiaparelli, the Duchess of Windsor and Diana Vreeland, Belperron is widely recognized as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. Asked why she never signed her jewelry, she replied “My style is my signature.” In 2015, Belperron LLC opened its first flagship salon in over forty years in New York, featuring vintage Belperron jewels and new pieces created from her archive of over 9,200 designs.
TEFAF Maastricht, the world’s leading art fair, is renowned for its commitment to excellence, expertise and elegance. This is reflected not only in the magnificent range of rare works that are offered for sale at the fair, which will be held in the MECC Maastricht from 10-19 March, 2017, but also in the number of art collectors, both private and institutional, that regard TEFAF as a must-see event in the art market calendar.
