In order to set stones of different cuts and sizes next to one another, Belperron’s workshop conceived a novel setting in which each stone appeared to be contained within a single cell-like compartment. Resembling the outline of an irregular honeycomb, the mounting achieves the random patterns and painterly variations in light and color that became an integral part of Madame Belperron’s designs.
